Practice Charts are due on Mondays in class. They must be completed with minutes of practice and a parent signature in order to receive credit.

Each week's practice chart is worth 100 points and count as a formative grade.

Any student that forgets may get it signed and bring it in for late credit.

• Chamber (4th Period)

  • Chamber continues to work on concert music, technique, and region! They are rising to the challenge of their music and working hard.

• Symphonic (5th Period)

  • Symphonic is working hard on concert music and region! They are improving every day on their music and doing so very well!

• Philharmonic (2nd Period)

  • These students are working on finger placement and patterns, tuning, and dynamics. They are doing so well!

• FYO (3rd, 6th, and 7th)

  • All of our beginner classes are moving quickly into playing songs! This week we continued to work on notes on the D String and are beginning to learn some of the songs for our first concert! Violins and violas now have shoulder rests and are learning how to hold the instrument properly! We continue to review bow hold using straws in preparation for bowing. Keep up the great work!

Private lessons are a wonderful chance for your student to learn one on one from a professional. This is optional and paid for by the parent. All students are encouraged to take private lessons on their instrument as it is a great way to learn more about your instrument and go farther as you are working individually with a teacher.

Humble ISD provides a list of approved private lessons teachers. They are vetted by Humble ISD teachers and have taken background checks.

The orchestra fee can now be paid online. Please be sure you select the correct fee when paying. Fees are due by August 29. Please contact Mr. Taylor (Joshua.Taylor@Humbleisd.net) if you need an extension.

For students in BEGINNING ORCHESTRA (First Year of Orchestra), the fee is $70 and includes:

For students in CHAMBER, SYMPHONIC, and PHILHARMONIC (2nd or 3rd year of Orchestra), the fee is $35 and includes:

• This year we are providing the formal, button-up shirt for students at no cost to parents. It will belong to TMS and students will be issued the shirt to use for the year. You will return the shirt following our final concert.

We invite everyone to submit photos of their pets so that we may print them and place on our pet wall! This became a TMS Orchestra tradition last year and one of our favorite things to do all year. This allows students to see their pets every time they come in to class as well as share stories of their pets! Pleas use the form below to submit photos.

All parents that are interested in chaperoning a field trip or volunteering with any TMS Orchestra event must register with the district as a volunteer. We are in need of volunteers for lots of events coming up! Please click on the link below to get started on the process.
