Message from The Principal |
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend with your children and that the extra hour from Daylight Savings.
What a four-day whirlwind we had at SWE! Between Red Ribbon Week, the Book Fair, and parent-teacher conferences, our building was buzzing with activity. Tuesday, however, took the prize for “most interesting day.” When strong winds knocked out our power, our teachers showed their flexibility and creativity by continuing lessons without electricity. Thankfully, our new spaces and bright windows came to the rescue!
Just when we thought we’d seen it all, the smoke detectors decided to join the excitement during dismissal, leading to an unexpected evacuation. Our staff and students handled it beautifully. They were calm, quick, and cooperative. Thankfully, there was no fire, and the fire department gave us the all-clear to enter the building after dismissal. Fire Tron came and replaced the faulty sensor.
Here’s to another great week ahead, hopefully one with a little less excitement and a lot of learning!

We are still looking for a few volunteers for Junior Achievement. |
Hello Summerwood Families!
My name is Emma Brawn and I'm the Junior Achievement coordinator for SWE. JA is a program where parent volunteers go into their child's class and teach 5 30-45 minute lessons on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness. The kids really enjoy the hands-on lessons and this is one of the best ways to get into your child's class and get to know their teacher and peers.
I am looking for one volunteer per homeroom class. You will need to complete a short, online training, make sure you are registered as a volunteer with Humble ISD and then coordinate with the classroom teacher to find time to teach the lessons. Most of our volunteers will teach one lesson a week. JA supplies all the necessary materials, scripted lessons and online resources to be successful in the classroom, even if you have no teaching experience! I usually spend about 15 minute the night before reading through the lesson and sorting the materials needed. The classroom teachers will stay with you to help manage the class and provide support as needed.
Use the Signup Genius below to select your child's class and I will follow up with details on the training and deliver your supplies. Any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

Attendance Counts
Students must attend at least 90% of school days—both excused and unexcused to meet state requirements for promotion.
Reporting Your Child's Absence
If your child is absent from school, please report the absence by filling out the Attendance Form (also located on SWE website), emailing stephanie.montez@humbleisd.net or calling the Absence Line at 281-641-3019 within 48 hours.
*Dated health care appointment notes allow the school to mark your child present if they attended ANY part of the school day on the day of their appointment. Proper documentation must be received by the attendance office.
If something is preventing your child from wanting to come to school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Reyes, the Principal, Mrs. Shrader or the Counselor, Mr. Kinniebrew. We are here to support you and your child in any way we can.
