tidbits for parents

Building Big Kid Skills!

We’re halfway through the school year, and that means one exciting thing — it’s almost time for Kindergarten! In Pre-K, your child has been practicing an important “big kid” skill: following simple routines.  In kindergarten, those routines grow a little bigger! Children will begin to  follow multi-step directions and move through daily routines more independently.

The good news? You can help at home — and make it fun! Play the Routine Game!

Turn everyday moments into a game by practicing a simple routine, such as: Clean up toys → wash hands → eat a snack. Talk through each step and let your child try it with just a little help. Cheer them on as they go!

What other routines can your child practice? Getting dressed? Snack time? Bedtime? Get creative, keep it playful, and most of all — have fun learning together!

Congratulations!!!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

Parents, help protect your child’s smile!

Follow the tips below to protect your child’s teeth from cavities. Young children want to brush their own teeth, but they need your help. Until your child is about 7 or 8, you should brush their teeth and help them floss.

3-5 Years Old                                                                                                                                                                             The cleaning and care that you start now will lead to lifelong habits that help your child keep a healthy mouth.

Brush your child’s teeth with a soft toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste twice a day.

Make sure your child spits out the toothpaste after brushing.

Do not have your child rinse with water. The fluoride that stays in your child’s mouth is good for their teeth.

Floss your child’s teeth. Ask dental office staff to help!

For more information, visit the Texas Health and Human Services website.

Congratulations!

February 2-6 is National Counselor's Week and we wanted to celebrate our favorite counselor Mrs. Karen Vargas! This is Mrs. Vargas's 13th year in education. She began her career as a high school science teacher and track coach in Aldine ISD, where she taught for six years. She then took three years off to stay home with her children. When she returned to work, she joined Humble ISD as a high school counselor and have since had the opportunity to serve in several different counseling and support roles. This is her seventh year in counseling and her second year as a District Student Support Counselor and ECC Campus Counselor. She grateful for every role she has had, as each one has helped shape the counselor and advocate she is today. When asked what motivates her to do her best every day, she shared "My students and families motivate me every day. Even when things are busy, knowing that I get to serve and support children and families is incredibly rewarding. I love collaborating with campus teams to help change the trajectory of a child’s life and build the life skills they need to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue".

We are so thankful to have her here at the Early Childhood Center! Thank you Mrs. Vargas!

Hi ECC Families!

In January, students who joined me for Social Skills Small Groups had fun building skills in:

- Using different parts of our bodies (eyes, ears, hands, feet, mouth/voice) to be respectful and kind

- Being respectful and kind in different places (home, classroom, playground)

In February, we will be practicing:

- Self-confidence

- Managing strong emotions

As a reminder, Social Skills Small Groups are open to all  ECC students! If you have not yet done so and would like to ensure your student can participate, please fill out the Humble ISD Counseling Consent Form.

Thank you!

Ms. Nina

After drawing a self-portrait, students brainstormed ways they can be respectful and kind with different parts of their bodies!

We Want and Need Your Child At School!

We know that it is holiday season and flu season...but if your student is not ill, please send them to school (We miss them)! When your student is not at school they are missing very important and valuable foundational skills that will carry them ALL the way to high school.

We recognize that unforeseen circumstances may arise, such as illness, family emergencies, or transportation issues. However, we kindly request your assistance in ensuring your children arrive at school on time daily. Even a single missed day can have a noticeable impact on their learning progress.

If your child is unable to attend school, please communicate with the school promptly. This helps us prevent potential truancy issues and allows us to support your child's education effectively. You may notify us by emailing your child's teacher, calling the front office, submitting the Early Childhood Center Online Absence Form, sending a note or medical documentation in your child's backpack upon their return, or emailing Jennifer Lopez at
jennifer.lopez@humbleisd.net. When notifying us, please include your child's first and last name, student ID, teacher’s name, date(s) of absence, and the reason for the absence.

If you have any questions regarding our attendance policies, please do not hesitate to contact Jennifer Lopez or Mrs. Price, principal of the Early Childhood Center.

arrive dismiss

Attention Parents:

Arrival: We open the doors at 7:30! We have breakfast available for students until 8:05 (then our cafe starts preparing for lunch time). So please have your students here before the tardy bell 😃

Dismissal: Car Rider is moving quite quickly! The Car Rider line has been ending on average by 3:30 everyday. We begin our car rider dismissal at 3:05 each afternoon, this allows plenty of time for parents to make it for pick up at other campuses. Please make plans to pick up your babies from the ECC first then the older kids. After 3:30, your students will need to be checked out in the front office; and I don't want you to have to get out of your car. Thank you for your consideration.

Dismissal Changes: All changes of dismissal must be shared with your student's teacher and or the front office, as soon as you are aware of the change. Due to safety, we will only accept changes from a parent.
