From Ms. Blackshear

Dear Creekwood Families and Supporters,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and this beautiful weather. I am looking forward to the fall as it brings cooler temperatures and some fun activities at CMS. Don’t forget that this Thursday is another late arrival. As we roll into October, we will be wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. Please wear pink this Friday, October 3, to celebrate the lives of those who have been touched by this disease.

Last week, the 6-week progress reports were posted in HAC. If you have not viewed your child’s progress report, please take a moment and do so. The end of the nine weeks is October 10. If your student needs assistance, be sure to have them attend tutoring. We are also rolling out our intervention opportunities during COLT Time, and we will have a more set schedule for each core content as we move into October. We started our rollout with math, and I am pleased with how successful it has been.  Rolling out the other content areas will allow more time during the school day for students to receive support from their teachers. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher to determine what areas they need to focus on.

Our MAP test results are in, and our teachers will be going over that data with their students. We will be sending home the reports so you can see how your child did. I will send an email out to all parents explaining the report and how to read it. Be on the lookout for this information.

Mark Your Calendars:

September 30 - Ava Wray PTA Fundraiser

October 3 - Wear Pink

October 9 - Picture re-takes or make-ups

October 10 - Breakfast with Blackshear

October 13-17 - No School, October Break

October 22 - All 8th graders take the PSAT

October 24 - Pink Out Pep Rally

October 27-31 - Red Ribbon Week (Dress Up Days to be announced soon)

As I previously shared, promoting attendance remains a campus initiative. Educational success is directly related to attendance. As you scroll through the newsletter take a look at our weekly data. Our goal is to hit 96.5% or higher each day. I will continue to share this data weekly so you can see how we are doing.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and I look forward to seeing you at some of this week's events.

Sincerely,

Stacey Blackshear
Principal, Creekwood Middle School

Why ID Badges Matter

One of the simplest but most effective safety practices is wearing visible ID badges. At Creekwood, every staff member and student is expected to wear their badge daily. Visitors must check in through the office and receive a printed badge.

Why is this important? Badges help staff immediately recognize who belongs on campus. If someone is not wearing an ID, we know to step in, offer help, and ensure they’re in the right place. This system also helps substitute teachers and new staff quickly get to know names and faces.

You can support this effort at home by reminding your child to clip their badge on before leaving for school. Many families find success with simple routines, like keeping the badge attached to a backpack or hanging it by the front door.

3 Ways Parents Can Help:
-Establish a “badge spot” at home (backpack clip, hook by the door).
-Remind your child to wear their badge each morning.
-Replace lost or damaged badges quickly through the front office.

Medication Reminders

Students are not permitted to carry any medication to, during, or from school other than those who have approval to carry an emergency medication. If a student is found to be carrying any medication, that medication will be kept in the clinic until an authorized adult can pick it up. If there is a need to have medication administered or kept on campus, please contact Megan Lewis, BSN, RN at 281-641-4405 or email mxlewis@humbleisd.net.

ID Badges

I.D. Badges

All students should be issued their identification badges by the beginning of next week and MUST wear their badges around their necks and VISIBLE at all times while on campus. ID badges are a integral part of our campus safety plan. If a student misplaces or forgets their badge, a temporary is issued through their grade level AP office. Failure to wear their badge or obtain a temporary is considered an infraction and will count toward detentions. If the badge is lost a new one can be purchased through the online store on the CMS website.
