Greetings, Gator Family!
As we move into the winter season, I want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work and growth we continue to see on our campus. Our students are learning, stretching their thinking, and making meaningful progress. They are also shining in athletic competitions and fine arts performances, proudly representing our school with talent, dedication, and teamwork. Students were able to utilize their Gator Bucks and points to purchase items from the PBIS snack cart and we have our attendance challenge still in play! Most importantly, our Gators are developing as responsible citizens, learning what it means to contribute positively to their school community.
As we celebrate these successes, we also need your partnership. Our referral count for November was 211, which is an increase from the previous November. The most common infraction continues to be disruption of the educational environment. We ask for your support in reinforcing classroom expectations at home so we can maintain a positive, focused learning space for all students. Together, we can continue guiding our kids toward better choices and brighter futures.
We are also approaching semester exams (December 15th-19th). Please remember that we cannot administer exams early. If a student must miss an exam due to an emergency or illness, they will receive a zero temporarily, but they will have the opportunity to make it up. During the week we return from winter break, January 6th–9th, teachers will use their after-school tutorial time for students to complete any missed semester exams. All exams must be made up by January 9th, so that grades can go in. Students who receive Special Education services and have an IEP will have individualized plans based on their specific needs if necessary. Lastly, please remember that December 18th and 19th are half days with early release at 12:30. On those days, students are expected to leave campus so that teachers can grade and finalize work.

Dear Parents,
As part of a comprehensive counseling program offered at Autumn Ridge Middle School, your child will have the opportunity to meet with his or her counselor through our district-required Personalized Counseling plan for all students. This specialized meeting will focus on goal setting, staying connected, and college and career planning to support our students' academic growth and social-emotional health. RELA Update- Growing Strong Writers
Our RELA team is currently focused on helping students strengthen their writing skills across grade levels. Students are working on crafting well-developed, multi-paragraph essays that include a clear controlling idea supported with relevant text evidence. Providing evidence is not enough—students are learning to explain how their evidence supports their concept and to draw a strong conclusion. In 8th grade, students are also required to include a counterargument in their essays to show deeper thinking and analysis.
Families can support this learning at home by encouraging students to explain their thinking more fully. Ask students to use the word “because” in their responses and to answer questions in complete sentences—even in text messages! These small habits help build stronger writers and communicators.
We also have an online practice resource available to students at home through IXL, which provides skill-building in reading, writing, grammar, and more. We encourage students to take advantage of this tool for extra practice outside of class.
Over the next month, teachers will be conducting individual student writing conferences. During this time, students will set personal writing goals that they will work toward throughout the quarter.
Additionally, our in-class Spelling Bee is underway! We encourage parents to help students study their spelling lists regularly and continue reading for 20–30 minutes each night. Strong reading habits support stronger writing and vocabulary development.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students grow as confident readers and writers!

CAR RIDER LOOP / WALKERS
For the safety of our students, please do not move our parking cones in any area that is placed to direct traffic. Our traffic signage is expected to be completed soon. Just a few reminders for safety…
1 - The front car rider loop is a “ONE WAY” at all times. Please do not exit the front parking lot, turning right. It is a “left turn” only to follow the car rider loop. Our car rider loop is a double-stacking lane in one direction at all times. “ONE WAY” signs will be posted soon!
2 - The stop sign in the curve of the car rider line was placed there on accident. You may disregard this sign and continue to proceed around the car rider loop to help continue to flow of drop-offs/pick-ups. Please be patient and kind as you merge into one lane in the car rider loop. 3 - Do not drive through cones in the parking lot. We have had to replace several cones that have been destroyed by cars running over them.
4 - In the car rider loop, please encourage your child to be ready to “unload” as soon as your car stops in front of the school (Under the awning area). This helps us move the line faster, get you through the car rider loops faster, and get kids in the building on time. We appreciate you for always “pulling all the way down” before you stop! The thumbs up, smiles, and waves are all in appreciation!!!
If your child is a walker, remind them to proceed home as soon as they are dismissed. We have too many students that are hanging out in front of the school/on campus that should be leaving the campus when they are dismissed. Students found not leaving the campus immediately will receive consequences.
