Principal's Message
Greetings Gator Parents and Guardians,
Happy fall! As we enter October, we are excited to see all that our Gators will achieve. Thank you to our amazing PTO for hosting a wonderful Legacy Sneaker Ball. The students had a great time, and it was wonderful to see them all dressed up. If you would like to join or volunteer, please reach out to our PTO president, Mrs. McCall.
The first nine weeks end on October 10. Please encourage your students to use their planners and keep up with work each day. Attendance is key to success. Sixth grade leads with 96.8 percent, seventh grade is at 95.5 percent, and eighth grade is at 96.1 percent. Our campus goal is 97 percent, and we are currently at 96.1 percent. Please help us by ensuring your student is present every day.
We ask for your support in reinforcing behavior expectations. Our most common issue is classroom disruption. Students will receive consequences for disrupting learning, but overall referrals are decreasing. Please also remind your student that personal devices are not to be used during the school day.
Excellence is our standard, and we are grateful for your partnership in supporting student growth, behavior, and safety. If you need help, please start with the teacher. For additional concerns, contact your student’s assistant principal and counselor.
We look forward to a great month with our Gators!
With Gator Pride,
Mrs. Burks - Principal

RELA
Dear Families,
This month, our students completed the NWEA MAP Growth Reading Assessment. In the coming weeks, students will be bringing home their individual results. These reports provide valuable insight into your child’s reading strengths and areas for growth.
The MAP assessment helps us determine class placements and identify which students may benefit from extra tutoring opportunities. Our goal is to ensure every student has the support they need to become a confident, successful reader and writer.
Along with MAP scores, families will see their child’s Lexile® reading level. A Lexile score is a measure of both text complexity and reading ability. In Texas, grade-level expectations generally fall within the ranges below:
6th Grade: ~ 925L–1070L
7th Grade: ~ 970L–1120L
8th Grade: ~ 1010L–1185L
If you’d like to look up books and texts that match your child’s Lexile level, visit the Lexile “Find a Book” tool at www.lexile.com/fab
. This resource helps you find books that fit both your child’s reading ability and personal interests.
Finally, we encourage families to make reading and writing a part of everyday life at home. A few simple strategies include:
Asking your child to read aloud to you or summarize what they’ve read.
Reading together and discussing new words or ideas.
Encouraging your child to keep a short journal, write letters, or create stories.
With your support, we can help all students grow into lifelong readers and writers. Thank you for partnering with us!
Warm regards,
The Reading Department

Supporting Student Organization
At ARMS, we know that organization is key to student success. To support this, we are encouraging all students to use a student planner. Planners directly connect to the “O” in WICOR (AVID Strategies)—helping students track assignments, deadlines, and important events.
All students students are required to have a planner and benefit from building strong organizational habits. It is an expectation that all teachers actively incorporate planners into classroom routines to support organization and an expectation for parents to sign in the planner each week acknowledging you have read all the hard work your student has completed. By consistently using planners in and out of the classroom, we reinforce organization as a lifelong skill for all students.
Please monitor the Gator Hour activities via Schoology designed to help students learn how to use this tool effectively. If they are lost, they must be replaced with a new one with their grade level AP. If you need help or have questions about Gator Hour please reach out to your student's 4th period teacher!

Testing Updates
Humble ISD will host and pay for the PSAT to 8th grade students on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025.
All 8th grade students are automatically registered for this assessment. The PSAT 8/9® is designed to measure the skills and knowledge that matter most for success in high school, college, and career. It provides a baseline for academic progress and helps students begin thinking about their future pathways—whether that includes college, career training, or entering the workforce. Learn more by reviewing the PSAT 8/9 Student Guide.
Benefits of the PSAT 8/9 include:
Identifying academic strengths and areas for growth while there’s still time to improve in high school.
Setting a target for future performance on college entrance exams like the SAT®.
Receiving personalized practice through official College Board resources.
Exploring AP® course readiness.
Connecting to career planning tools and college preparation resources.
Scores will be available to families through ARMS and the College Board’s online portal. Instructions for accessing results will be provided after testing.
For campus questions regarding testing, you may contact the ARMS Campus Testing Coordinator, Ms. Roland. Her email is Shannon.Roland@humbleisd.net.

Transportation
Traffic Flow
Please review this GIF for an overview of how traffic will flow during arrival and dismissal. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:50 a.m. (Late Arrival Days: 9:30 a.m.). Dismissal will begin at 4:00 p.m. each day.
CAR RIDER LOOP / WALKERS
For the safety of our students, please do not move our parking cones in any area that is placed to direct traffic. Our traffic signage is expected to be completed soon. Just a few reminders for safety…
1 - The front car rider loop is a “ONE WAY” at all times. Please do not exit the front parking lot, turning right. It is a “left turn” only to follow the car rider loop. Our car rider loop is a double-stacking lane in one direction at all times. “ONE WAY” signs will be posted soon!
2 - The stop sign in the curve of the car rider line was placed there on accident. You may disregard this sign and continue to proceed around the car rider loop to help continue to flow of drop-offs/pick-ups. Please be patient and kind as you merge into one lane in the car rider loop.
3 - Do not drive through cones in the parking lot. We have had to replace several cones that have been destroyed by cars running over them.
4 - In the car rider loop, please encourage your child to be ready to “unload” as soon as your car stops in front of the school (Under the awning area). This helps us move the line faster, get you through the car rider loops faster, and get kids in the building on time. We appreciate you for always “pulling all the way down” before you stop! The thumbs up, smiles, and waves are all in appreciation!!!
If your child is a walker, remind them to proceed home as soon as they are dismissed. We have too many students that are hanging out in front of the school/on campus that should be leaving the campus when they are dismissed. Students found not leaving the campus immediately will receive consequences.
