Happy Fall, Gator Family!
We’re excited to finally experience some cooler weather at ARMS! Students have begun their second nine weeks and are working hard to learn new skills while reinforcing those from previous grades. Our teachers continue to offer weekly tutorials, and we host targeted Saturday interventions to further support student learning. Every effort we make is centered on improving academic achievement and helping our students grow.
One of our key campus priorities this year is improving both academic performance and behavior. The most frequent referral we receive involves disruptions to the learning environment. These include excessive talking during instruction, leaving seats without permission, and using inappropriate language when redirected by an adult. Such behaviors not only hinder the student’s own learning but also affect classmates who are trying to focus. We must work together to improve in this area. Your partnership and support in reinforcing appropriate school behavior at home are critical to our success.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the recent pep rally due to widespread behavior concerns. Our top priority is always student safety, and we must ensure the environment is secure before holding large schoolwide events. We are hopeful that with improvement, we can reschedule the pep rally soon.
Lastly, we know that many families in our community are experiencing food insecurity due to recent changes in assistance programs. To help, we’ve partnered with our Student Council to launch a campus food drive. All donations will directly support ARMS students and families in need. Our staff is also contributing non-perishable items to ensure our Gators are cared for during this challenging time. If you would like to donate, please drop items off at the front desk. Also, if you find yourself or family in need, please be sure to reach out to your student's counselor. We will do our best to send food home with the student or arrange a time for you to pick up items as we get the drive rolling.
Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your student(s) with us. We look forward to a productive and successful second nine weeks!
Best regards,
Mrs. Burks
Principal - Autumn Ridge Middle School

Reading at Home: Building Skills, Confidence, and Fun!
Reading at home is a powerful way to help students grow academically, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning. By supporting reading outside of school, families give students the chance to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills—all while having fun!
Understanding Lexile Levels
Lexile® levels help families select books that match their child’s reading ability. A student’s Lexile measure shows the level of text they can read with about 75% comprehension. Choosing books within a student’s Lexile range ensures reading is challenging but achievable, which supports skill growth and keeps students motivated.
Spelling Bee Spotlight
Our annual Spelling Bee is just around the corner! Students who read regularly often have stronger spelling, vocabulary, and word recognition skills—all key components of spelling success. Reading at home provides a great foundation for students to excel in this exciting competition.
Reading Department Plans
Our Reading Department is focused on helping students become confident, critical thinkers. In addition to building reading skills, we are emphasizing writing and evidence-based responses. Students are learning to: use text evidence to support their ideas, explain their thinking clearly in writing, and analyze passages to understand the deeper meaning
This means that reading at home isn’t just about finishing a book—it’s about thinking, reflecting, and explaining what students have learned. Families can support this by asking questions about the story, encouraging students to summarize, or having them provide examples from the text to explain their thoughts.
How Families Can Support Reading at Home: set aside dedicated reading time each day, let your child choose books that interest them, ideally within their Lexile range, discuss books together, ask students to explain their answers, cite text evidence, and celebrate successes—like reading milestones, improved comprehension, or spelling bee preparation!
By reading at home, participating in the Spelling Bee, and practicing evidence-based writing, students develop the literacy skills they need to succeed academically—and the confidence to shine both in and out of the classroom.

Supporting Student Organization
At ARMS, we know that organization is key to student success. To support this, we are encouraging all students to use a student planner. Planners directly connect to the “O” in WICOR (AVID Strategies)—helping students track assignments, deadlines, and important events.
All students are required to have a planner and benefit from building strong organizational habits. It is an expectation that all teachers actively incorporate planners into their classroom routines to support organization, and an expectation for parents to sign in the planner each week, acknowledging that they have read all the hard work their student has completed. By consistently using planners in and out of the classroom, we reinforce organization as a lifelong skill for all students.
Please monitor the Gator Hour activities on Schoology, which are designed to help students learn how to use this tool effectively. If they are lost, they must be replaced with a new one at their grade level AP. If you need help or have questions about Gator Hour, please reach out to your student's 4th-period teacher!

Principles of Human Services
This week in Principles of Human Services our class put into practice what we have been learning about Human Development. The students in Coach Winebrenner’s PHS class did a project about creating a community using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs after an Autumn Ridge Zombie Apocalypse. In this assignment, the teachers have all become zombies and it is left up to the students to fulfill all of their stages of human needs based on Maslow’s model. The class was divided into groups and each group came up with their survival skills and strategies in each of the 5 stages of human needs. In each group’s community they were tasked with establishing shelter, food and water sources, creating safe boundaries, creating a role for each member of the community, and establishing rules for their community. All of these are important for a community to be a successful society.
The students had a good time working together to create their communities and were able to use Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to set up functioning societies.
Intro to Programming
The Intro to Programming classes learned to code the “old school” way by using Morse Code. These students collaborated to decode their Morse Code assignment in the space lab. Once they were able to decode the assignment, they then wrote a sentence in Morse code to trade and have each other decipher their codes.

You don't have to be a PTO Officer to volunteer at our campus. Volunteering at schools allows you to contribute to the community and make a positive impact on students' lives. If you are interested in being a volunteer, you must be approved by Humble ISD. Please follow the easy steps to become a campus volunteer. The first step is completing a short online volunteer application. As a part of this process, a background check is completed and within 72 hours, you will receive an email notification regarding the status of your application. Next, contact Antoinesha Cormier, ARMS Campus Secretary (281-641-8501). Email: Antoinesha.Cormier@humbleisd.net. She will add your name to our volunteer list, once you've been approved.

CAR RIDER LOOP / WALKERS
For the safety of our students, please do not move our parking cones in any area that is placed to direct traffic. Our traffic signage is expected to be completed soon. Just a few reminders for safety…
1 - The front car rider loop is a “ONE WAY” at all times. Please do not exit the front parking lot, turning right. It is a “left turn” only to follow the car rider loop. Our car rider loop is a double-stacking lane in one direction at all times. “ONE WAY” signs will be posted soon!
2 - The stop sign in the curve of the car rider line was placed there on accident. You may disregard this sign and continue to proceed around the car rider loop to help continue to flow of drop-offs/pick-ups. Please be patient and kind as you merge into one lane in the car rider loop. 3 - Do not drive through cones in the parking lot. We have had to replace several cones that have been destroyed by cars running over them.
4 - In the car rider loop, please encourage your child to be ready to “unload” as soon as your car stops in front of the school (Under the awning area). This helps us move the line faster, get you through the car rider loops faster, and get kids in the building on time. We appreciate you for always “pulling all the way down” before you stop! The thumbs up, smiles, and waves are all in appreciation!!!
If your child is a walker, remind them to proceed home as soon as they are dismissed. We have too many students that are hanging out in front of the school/on campus that should be leaving the campus when they are dismissed. Students found not leaving the campus immediately will receive consequences.
